Born in Normandy, France, Raphael Salley first became interested in hair styling whilst joining his mother on her salon trips in their local town. After attending hairdressing school at the age of 20 in Rouen, Raphael went on to work as part of the team at Alexandre Haute Coiffure before moving to London and assisting Eugene Souleiman for four years before pursuing his freelance career.

With his style described as having the beauty of France with the edge of London, Raphael’s talent has led him to work with photographers such as Harley Weir, Nick Knight, Ben Toms, Juergen Teller & stylists such as Robbie Spencer, Sarah Richardson, Edward Enninful & Julia Sarr Jamois. His editorial work has been featured in magazines such as Dazed, AnOther, Dust, Vogue & Purple, with commercial clients including Agent Provocateur, Isabel Marant, Givenchy & Linda Farrow.
