Born in Tokyo, Japan, Roku Roppongi was influenced into studying hairdressing after being surrounded by hair products when growing up (a result of his parent’s careers within the beauty industry). At the age of 16, Roku began working part-time in a local hair salon before studying full-time and working in Harajyuku after graduating. After moving to London, Roku met a session stylist by chance and began assisting on editorial jobs before moving on to work with stylists such as Eugene Souleiman for a number of years. Roku joined Saint Luke in 2013.
With his style having a raw, London-heritage edge, Roku’s creative work has featured in editorials such as i-D, Dazed, British Vogue, Vogue Spain & New York Times, having worked with photographers including Scott Trindle, Txema Yeste, Harley Weir, Ben Weller, Tom Craig and Laurence Ellis. His commercial clients include Pandora, Adidas, Fred Perry, Sophie Hulme & Net-A-Porter.
