Born in West London, Phoebe Shakespeare began assisting set designers during the second year of her Critical Art Practice degree at Brighton University. Her introduction to fashion was through a couple of last minute projects during this period, including assisting stylist Beat Bolliger and helping out during LFW. After moving to London upon completion of her degree, Phoebe worked in-house as a set designer for Wonderland Events, spending her spare time freelancing on fashion photoshoots and assisting set-designers.
Whilst spending her summers freelancing in New York, Phoebe built her freelance portfolio before focussing on her own work full-time.
Phoebe’s imaginative & explorative style is influenced by culture, politics and technology. She says “I love seeing the way humans create systems and patterns. I think genius lies in being able to be revenant but utterly unique in one’s interpretation of the world”.
Incorporating a period of travel into her life every year, Phoebe’s determination and commitment to building other worlds in a resourceful and enchanting way has seen her build a strong client base, with commissions from brands such as Net-A-Porter, Selfridges, Amazon & Facebook & editorials such as AnOther, Numero Berlin & Twin. Working with photographers such as Nick Dorey, Carlijn Jacobs, Tom Johnson and Thurstan Redding, Phoebe is also passionate about event set-builds, having collaborated on projects such as the British Fashion Awards at Royal Albert Hall and the Fabulous Halloween Fund Fair with AMFAR in New York.
