Batou Gomis has always recognised the hair’s potency in storytelling, history and its ability to carry emotion. Growing up in France, he started doing his sister’s and school friends’ hair before studying hairdressing. After completing his studies with the highest possible accolade and working in a prestigious salon, Batou moved to London to pursue opportunities in the fashion industry. He has a strong salon background and experience with all hair types and textures as well as wigs. With Senegalese and Guinea-Bissauan roots, Batou draws inspiration from his heritage as well as everyday life’s strangers and their hairstyles. Faithful to his vision and not afraid of taking risk, his technical, cutting-edge and artistic hair looks have seen him working with the likes of Isaac Poleon, Jawara and others.
