Batou Gomis has always recognised the hair’s potency in storytelling, history and its ability to carry emotion. Growing up in France, he started doing his sister’s and school friends’ hair before studying hairdressing. After completing his studies with the highest possible accolade and working in a prestigious salon, Batou moved to London to pursue opportunities in the fashion industry. He has a strong salon background and experience with all hair types and textures as well as wigs. With Senegalese and Guinea-Bissauan roots, Batou draws inspiration from his heritage as well as everyday life’s strangers and their hairstyles. Faithful to his vision and not afraid of taking risk, his artistic hair looks have allowed him to shoot for The Greatest, Document Journal, GQ, 10 Magazine and International Vogues as well as commercial clients such as Versace, Tommy Hilfiger, Lululemon, Levi’s, and Poster Girl.
